The focus of this required course is to learn and practice the fundamental counseling skills necessary for effectively listening, communicating, and being pastorally present with people. This course will emphasize the basic skills, principles, and processes of pastoral counseling from a decidedly Christian worldview. Additionally, this course will cover some other issues related to counseling, such as dealing with crisis situations, premarital work with couples, and how and when to refer parishioners to other mental health professionals.
